Awana Clubs

AWANA at Delaney is for 3 years – 6th grade, and your kids will love this program!
At AWANA, we play games, have fun, listen to Bible stories, & learn God’s Word. AWANA is an exciting program that teaches children to have fun, while striving for excellence!

Awana Club meets once a week on Sunday evenings, 5-7 pm (August through May)

The acronym A.W.A.N.A. comes from the first letters of Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed, taken from 2 Timothy 2:15.

Awana is an international, bible-centered children’s program open to the church and the community that teaches basic truths about God, Jesus Christ, salvation and the Bible. Awana is unique because it is a fun approach to learning God’s Word. The children learn the gospel through bible memorization. They build friendships through exclusive Awana games, as they work through their personal handbooks to earn Awana bucks, prizes, and awards. AWANA combines learning with fun to create an atmosphere of irresistible excitement for all kids.

AWANA CALENDAR & SPECIAL EVENTS

We will keep this calendar as current as possible. However, all future theme dates are subject to change, so please do not print and use as a year-long reference! We’re looking forward to a great fun-filled year of AWANA!

Our Awana Club has three programs:

CUBBIES
Cubbies (PK-4) – Designed for three and four year-olds that are are age three by September 1. Boys and girls in Cubbies will learn key basic truths about God, Jesus Christ, and the Bible. It’s fun with a purpose, to reach and train kids for Jesus. Games, puppets, crafts, awards and other activities transform our Preschool program into a lively weekly experience where fun and learning go hand in hand. They will learn the need to trust Christ as their Savior while memorizing approximately 55 Bible verses and will be working to learn verses and about God’s love for them!

SPARKS
Kindergarten through Second grade – This program builds on the Cubbies material, but will dig deeper in God’s Word and is for children in. In SPARKS, kids will learn truths about God, Jesus Christ, and the Bible. They will also receive clear presentations of the Gospel and salvation message and have regular opportunities to come to faith in Jesus, while memorizing and reviewing over 68 Bible verses. They will be learning a little bit longer verses than Cubbies, and will also be learning about mission and take a field trip during the year.

TRUTH AND TRAINING
3rd through 6th graders – This material will teach kids the truth of God’s Word and train them to follow Christ in their daily lives. By the time a child completes Truth & Training, they will have learned 310 Bible verses, studied dozens of Bible passages, and regularly heard the salvation message. The name Truth and Training reflects our passion to teach the truth of God’s Word and to train them to follow Christ in their daily lives. T&T will be digging even deeper into His word than Sparks, and have at least one special field trip as well as mission projects.

AWANA end of the year CLOSING CEREMONY is a celebration of all the fun we have had during the year, and the children are awarded for their achievements throughout the year.
It’s also a time to  thank all those who volunteer who devote so many hours of their time and talents, above and beyond the call of duty, to make AWANA so special!

ABOUT AWANA:

AWANA is an international, non–denominational, Bible-centered youth program. The acronym AWANA comes from the first letters of the phrase, “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed”, from II Timothy 2:15. We provide a place for children to make friends; play exciting games; have opportunities to learn and memorize God’s Word, learn to apply that scriptures to their life by becoming involved in missions, and receive awards as encouragement for their efforts! Our goal is to reach boys and girls with the Gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him!

Program Overview:

The three main parts of our program are Handbook Time, Large Group Time and Game Time.

Handbook Time:

During Handbook Time, leaders listen to verses and help children understand and apply them. Clubbers should pass at least one section each week. We strongly encourage parental involvement.

Large Group Time:

Large Group Time consists of music, announcements, testimonies, a Biblical message and award presentations. We give major awards for completing books at the Awards Program in May; however, club directors give smaller awards for completing sections in their books throughout the year.

Game Time:

Competition during Game Time is exciting! We encourage children to play fair, cheer for their team and persevere to finish the race. Please have children wear proper shoes for games: close-toed, non-slip, non-marking shoes for running. Directors assign clubbers to teams at the beginning of the year; however, they may reassign teams as needed.

A Medical Release Form (see forms below) needs to be submitted for each clubber no later than their second week of attendance.

Pickup Procedure:
For the protection of each child, parents/guardians need to pick up their children promptly at 7 p.m. from the Gym. Siblings will not be allowed to pick up their younger brothers or sisters without prior written approval. The Awana Permission Form (see forms below) is available for parents to authorize the pick up of their children by anyone other than themselves.

For Parents:

While your children are attending AWANA, we invite you to attend our Sunday Evening Worship Service in the Sanctuary from 5:30-6:30 pm. If you are interested in volunteering with the club, email Commander Danielle Miller at awana@delaneychurch.org or sign up at the Registration Table.

A Note from our AWANA Pastor & Commander

Dear Parents,

Thank you for allowing your child(ren) to attend our AWANA program. We look forward to another year of fun, learning and growing in Christ. In order for things to run smoothly, we would like to pass on some important information. If you have any questions feel free to discuss them with your child’s leader, one of the check-in staff leaders or myself, the AWANA Commander. You may also contact me at the church office at 407-422-0758.

Our AWANA program covers the following ages:
Cubbies 3-5 yrs old (must be 3 by September 1st)
Sparks – Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade
T&T – 3rd through 6th grade

The hours for AWANA are Sundays from 5 – 7 pm. We would like for the children to arrive no earlier than 4:45 pm and be picked up no later than 7:15 pm. When arriving with your child(ren), please come to the sign-in table in the fountain courtyard to sign them in. Once you have signed your child in, they will then be dismissed to the sanctuary for opening ceremonies, which will begin promptly at 5 pm.

When picking up children, please go to their respective rooms
(T&T – room D201, Sparks – rooms B201-204, Cubbies – room B108.)

If you have children in multiple rooms, please pick up in the following order:
1) T&T
2) Sparks
3) Cubbies
The children are not allowed to leave until an adult comes to get them. We require this for the safety of the children.

While there are minimal changes in the Cubbies and Sparks, there are some significant changes to note for T&T. Due to the fact that T&T has outgrown their previous location, the first change to note is the T&T room is now located in rooms D201 & D202. The second and most significant change is that AWANA has begun updating the T&T books. As a result, all clubbers in T&T (regardless of grade / # of books completed), will be working through the same book. An additional information page about the T&T book update will be provided to parents of T&T clubbers. Please feel free to contact the T&T director, Danielle Miller, at 615-525-1501 for any questions regarding these changes.

There are several ways that you can help AWANA be a successful program. The first is to work with your child(ren) to help them learn their verses in their handbooks. The children who do the best in AWANA are those whose parents take an active part in encouraging them to work in their handbooks each week. The second is to encourage your kids to help support our AWANA GO mission emphasis. For every $10 collected, the gospel is shared and long-term discipleship is provided to unreached / unchurched children in the United States and around the world. We think that by giving on a regular basis, the children learn an important lesson about supporting God’s work. This is true whether they give a nickel each week or a dollar. We encourage you to communicate with us as often as you like. You can reach me by e-mail (associatepastor@delaneychurch.org) or by phone (407-422-0758). The calendar page will come in handy when you need to know what events are coming up soon or what the next theme night is going to be.

For His Glory,
Richard Miller / Family and Youth Pastor
